Abstract

Youth employment presents itself as a major challenge, with significant economic, social and security ramifications. With a predominantly young population, Senegal faces an imperative to create decent and lasting jobs to absorb this dynamic segment of its population. The employment situation thus reflects a challenge shared by many African countries, faced with a demographic dividend whose potential benefits cannot be realized without effective integration of young people into the economic and productive spheres. This seminar is intended to be a space for dialogue and in-depth analysis of the problem of youth employment in Senegal. This involves examining public policies implemented in terms of youth employment, assessing their impact and proposing alternative perspectives for more inclusive professional integration. The objective is to bring together researchers, institutional actors, representatives of the private sector and civil society in order to compare perspectives and identify concrete and realistic solutions. The reflections carried out during these seminars cannot be limited to the Senegalese context. The issues related to youth employment intersect with challenges shared by the entire African continent and beyond. The lessons learned from the Senegalese experience can thus feed broader reflections, with a view to better addressing the issue of youth employment on a sub-regional or even continental scale.
