Firmin MBALA

Biography

Firmin Mbala is a specialist in human rights and international development. He has more than 15 years of experience in research, advocacy and project management aimed at promoting respect for fundamental rights and combating inequalities and discrimination. He has led high-impact projects mainly in West and Central Africa, notably to shed light on human rights violations, combat gender-based violence, such as female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage children and sexual violence. He also succeeded in mobilizing and managing financial resources from various prestigious donors, such as IDRC, European Union, Foundation for Just Society International, Hewlett Foundation, IPPF, FCDO, CISU, UNHCR. As a trainer, he has built the capacities of various actors in Africa, including civil society organizations, community organizations, national human rights institutions and defense forces. He worked for renowned international NGOs such as Open Society Foundations and Amnesty International, after being an academic in France and then in Cameroon. He has also been a consultant on human rights and democratic governance for the African Union and various UN agencies and NGOs. He holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in political science from Sciences Po Bordeaux in France, and is fluent in English and French. Passionate about human rights and social justice, he strives to create a more equitable and inclusive world through education and training.
