Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Cape Town and Director of HUMA – Institute for Humanities in Africa. His research addresses the politics of suffering and smiling, particularly how urban youth seek ways of smiling in the midst of their suffering, the political economy of African knowledge production; & centring African epistemologies in AI. I worked in Cameroon, Botswana, Senegal, South Africa & Switzerland, & held fellowships in Brazil, Germany, Japan, Netherlands.
