EPISTEMOLOGIES FROM THE GLOBAL SOUTH: Negritude, Modernity and the Idea of Africa’ by Cheikh Thiam

We are delighted to introduce a new edition on the Thinking Africa Series, ‘Epistemologies from the Global South: Negritude, Modernity and the Idea of Africa’ by Cheikh Thiam

Epistemologies From the Global South revisits pivotal moments in the discipline of Africana studies in light of an Africa-centered engagement with Leopold Sedar Senghor’s philosophy. In this sense, the author (Cheikh) shows the contemporary relevance of Negritude as an endogenous critique of Western modernity and an endogenous theory of African subjectivity.

To order the book, kindly email or call Edwin Ramthew at ramthew@ukzn.ac.za / 033 260 5802. Alternatively, copies are available to purchase from our offices in Pietermaritzburg (on the UKZN Pietermaritzburg Campus).
