African states at the UN play a key role in the Security Council. The Laboratory for the Analysis of Societies and Powers / Africa – Diasporas (LASPAD) invites you to an online seminar dedicated to the evolution of their influence, the logic of cooperation, and the strategies implemented within the framework of the E10 group.
The Security Council has 15 members, including 5 permanent and 10 non-permanent members. Often seen as an instrument for validating the power of the permanent members, it nevertheless remains an area where non-permanent states exercise real influence – including over the permanent members.
This session will highlight:
- the contribution of non-permanent States,
- the special role of African states,
- their cooperation strategies within the “E10” group (Elected 10),
- prominent examples, such as Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, sponsored by Namibia in 2000.
