The Laboratory for the Analysis of Societies and Powers / Africa – Diasporas (LASPAD) is pleased to invite you to an online seminar devoted to the future of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in a context marked by profound contradictions.
Africa has immense economic potential, but this remains hampered by persistent crises and threats:
- Conflicts and insecurities: Mali, Sudan, DRC, Sahel, Horn of Africa.
- Terrorism and transnational insurgencies: Boko Haram, AQIM, Al-Shabaab.
- Coups d’état and political instability: Burkina Faso, Niger, Gabon, Mali.
While these conflict dynamics threaten the effectiveness of the AfCFTA, they also highlight its possible role as an instrument of peace, thanks to:
- economic interdependence,
- inclusive development strengthening security,
- the consolidation of governance,
- the link between economic integration and peace processes.
