Biography
Cheikh Sadibou Sakho is a systems anthropologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, Senegal, where he founded and coordinates the Research Group on Environment, Energy and Societies (GRENES). His research focuses on contemporary socio-ecological transformations in West Africa and is structured around an innovative scientific agenda: the development of a systemic anthropology of nature use and African socio-ecological systems.
His work examines the interactions between natural resources, social practices, institutions, technologies, power relations, and territorial dynamics. He has conducted extensive research on the social dimensions of energy, energy transitions, extractive industries, climate change, social uses of nature, socio-ecological vulnerabilities, social innovation, and local forms of resilience. Particular attention is given to the co-evolutionary processes linking societies and environments, as well as to governance mechanisms and sociotechnical inequalities that shape development trajectories.
Alongside these research interests, he is developing a systemic approach to gender relations, masculinities, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies.
