Biography
Farid El Asri is an anthropologist and holds a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL). He is an associate professor at Sciences Po Rabat, International University of Rabat (UIR), and an associate researcher at the CNRS International Research Group “Aging in Africa.” He is also the founding director of the European network EmridNetwork: European Muslim Research on Islamic Development (Brussels, 2014).
Farid El Asri is a member of the African Observatory of Religion, where he is responsible for the working group “Secularization, Languages, and Territories” (UFR, CRAC, UGB), Senegal, 2016. He has participated in several European research projects, including the European Research Council (ERC) “Advanced Grant” project with the research theme: “Aesthetic norms in an Islamic way” – ISLAM-REFERRED NORMATIVITIES (IRENE PROJECT), 2016, and the project “The European Union and the Global Challenge of Migration,” H2020 (European Commission), 2015. He is also a visiting professor at Gaston Berger University in Senegal (since 2014) and at the University of Padua in Italy (since 2013).
