Biography
Malika HAMIDI, Ph.D. in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. She is currently an associate lecturer for the course “Islam in Contemporary Europe” (led by Prof. Corinne TORREKENS) as part of the Master’s program in Political Science at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. In September 2023, she joined the scientific and pedagogical coordination of the university certificate program in religious and social sciences at UCLouvain-Saint Louis Brussels, titled “Islam in Contemporary Europe Through the Lens of Gender.”
She is also a postdoctoral researcher at Saint Louis University as part of the research project titled “RE-VISUALISE: Gender and Islam in the Francophone Digital World,” co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. The project is led by a consortium including Saint Louis University in Brussels, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Montreal, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, and the PLURIVERS’ELLES Studies and Training Association. This research program focuses on an emerging counter-current social and digital reality, where Instagrammers, influencers, and hijabis play a pivotal role. They pave the way for new forms of influence, inspiration, and leadership to combat prevalent Islamophobia, particularly on social media, heralding the advent of a Muslim Feminism 2.0
