COMSEN2023 international symposium

“Information and communication sciences: Views from elsewhere, views from Africa”.

November 22, 23 and 24, 2023

Dakar Saint-Louis (Senegal)

1. Sales pitch

The lack of visibility of African scientific work rooted in information and communication sciences (ICS) is a serious impediment to the institutionalization of the discipline on the continent. In order to remedy this situation, it is essential to create forums for the sharing of knowledge and experience. It is against this backdrop that the Communication Senegal (COMSEN) symposium was conceived.

This first multi-site edition of the COMSEN Colloquium will be jointly hosted by the Centre des sciences et techniques de l’information (CESTI) at Cheikh Anta Diop University (Dakar, Senegal) and the Unité de formation et de recherche Civilisations, Religions, Arts et Communication (UFR CRAC) at Gaston Berger University (Saint-Louis, Senegal), two major hubs of francophone training, research and scientific production in communication on the African continent. Entitled “Les sciences de l’information et de la communication : Vues d’ailleurs, vues d’Afrique”, the symposium will be held jointly in Dakar and Saint-Louis on November 22, 23 and 24, 2023.

The COMSEN colloquium aims to become a key research event on the international social science agenda, with a particular focus on CIS.

The aim is to bring together researchers in information and communication sciences, or in related disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, interested in the study of communication phenomena, for a multi-disciplinary scientific event. The symposium will also be open to artists, communication and information practitioners and the general public. The aim is to broadly discuss information and communication issues that are central to contemporary societies, with a particular focus on African perspectives and realities. This unprecedented event will provide an opportunity for interaction that reflects the richness and uniqueness of CIS, and will bring together knowledge, visions and perspectives with a view to

understand the multiple forces (technological, legal, cultural, economic, etc.) driving communication in today’s societies.
